Here’s a simple recipe for Venetian apple pie:
Ingredients:
- 2 sheets of ready-made puff pastry
- 4-5 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Gala)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Place the slices in a bowl and toss them with the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and lemon zest until well coated.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to fit the size of your baking sheet. Place it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Arrange the apple slices evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and place it over the apple slices. Press the edges of the two sheets of pastry together to seal them.
- Brush the melted butter over the top of the pie.
- Use a sharp knife to make a few small slits on the top pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
- Optionally, dust the top of the pie with powdered sugar for a decorative touch.
- Serve the Venetian apple pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
