- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for greasing)
- 1½ cups heavy cream
- 1½ teaspoons kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (optional)
- Butter or neutral oil for greasing the ring mold
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Generously grease a 10- to 12-cup ring mold or Bundt pan with butter or oil.
- Peel the potatoes and keep them submerged in cold water until ready to slice.
- Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, slice the potatoes into thin rounds about ⅛ inch (3 mm) thick.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, heavy cream, salt, and black pepper.
- Pat the potato slices dry with a clean kitchen towel, then gently toss them in the cream mixture until evenly coated.
- Arrange an overlapping layer of potato slices in the bottom of the prepared mold, creating an attractive circular pattern.
- Continue layering the remaining potatoes, pressing down gently after every few layers and spooning the cream mixture evenly throughout.
- Cover the mold tightly with aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 45 minutes covered.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for another 30–40 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is beautifully golden brown.
- Allow the potato ring to rest for 10–15 minutes before unmolding.
- Carefully loosen the edges with a thin knife, invert onto a serving platter, and lift off the mold.
- Slice into wedges and serve immediately.
