This Big Mac recipe tastes just like your favorite McDonald’s burger with juicy burger patties, a sesame seed bun and a secret sauce.
The special sauce at McDonald’s is full of sugar and fat. My version has a little less fat, and you can cut back on the sugar by using sugar-free ketchup.
They’re super easy to make—all you have to do is mix low-fat mayonnaise, ketchup, finely chopped onion, pickle, white wine vinegar, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix everything until well combined, then enjoy!
The calories in a homemade Big Mac vary depending on the ingredients you use. If you use the same ingredients as I do, each homemade Big Mac will contain about 497 calories.
By comparison, according to the company’s website, a McDonald’s Big Mac prepared without any substitutes contains 570 calories.
ingredients:
°12 pieces of bread
°2 lbs minced meat
°1 yellow onion, chop
°12 slices of American Kraft cheese
°1 cup of shredded lettuce
°12 to 15 hamburger dill pickles (sliced)
°1/3 cup Thousand Island dressing
°2 beaten eggs
°1 tablespoon roasted sesame
°1 tsp melted butter
°2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
°2 teaspoons garlic powder (to taste)
°1 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
°2 tablespoons chopped onion (to taste)
*Directions:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and eggs. Avoid over mixing. Mix until homogeneous. Adjust seasonings to your liking.
Divide meat mixture in half and form rectangles slightly larger than six rolls bundled together (two rows of three rolls, side by side, as in original package).
Arrange the meat rectangles on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle more chopped onion on top if desired. Ensure even thickness for even cooking. Bake at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes, checking to avoid overcooking or overcooking.
While the meats are cooking, divide your groups of six buns to make the bottoms and tops.
Drizzle about 2 tablespoons of the Thousand Island dressing on each base and spread evenly.
Once cooked, wipe off any excess fat from the meat patties with a paper towel. Place the galettes on the dressed baking bases. Spread additional dressing over the patties.
Put cheese slices on the meat patties. Return the tray to the oven briefly to melt the cheese, usually about a minute or two.
Once the cheese is melted, spread the chopped onions, pickles, and lettuce evenly over the patties. Cap with cupcakes.
Using a pastry brush, brush surface of bread with melted butter and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Cut the burger into individual portions.
Enjoy a little Big Mac and Cheese!
