List of components:
1 piece of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
6 to 8 thin slices of ham
1 cup of grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a combination)
1 egg (to brush on top)
1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard (if desired, for more taste)
1/2 teaspoon of Italian seasoning or dried parsley (if desired, for decoration)
Steps:
Heat the oven before using.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Make the puff pastry:
Spread out the puff pastry on a surface with a little flour until it forms a rectangle.
Place the ingredients one on top of the other.
If you are using it, put a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the pastry.
Put the ham slices evenly on top of the dough.
Put the grated cheese over the ham, making sure it covers the surface evenly.
Roll out the dough.
Begin rolling the puff pastry tightly from one of the long sides into a log. Close the edge by pressing softly.
Relax and take it easy.
Put the rolled dough in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes. This helps with cutting.
Cut into spirals:
Cut the cold roll into pieces that are 1/2 inch thick using a sharp knife.
Get the pinwheels ready for baking.
Place the slices on the baking sheet, making sure there is room between each one.
Whisk the egg in a small bowl and spread it on the top of the pinwheels. Add Italian seasoning or parsley if you like.
Cook in the oven.
Cook in the oven that has been preheated for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown and puffed up.
