Ingredients:
two heads of cabbage
two lbs ground beef
three cups cooked rice
one egg
one tsp garlic
one tbsp parsley
two slices of onion diced
1 -15oz. can tomato sauce
1-28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
a quarter cup tomato sauce (in the meat)
°Salt & Pepper to taste
Preparation
Put a head of cabbage in a pot of boiling water and peel the cabbage leaves one at a time.
Cut off the rough part at the end of the cabbage leaf with a sharp knife.
Mix all the ingredients together except the fifteen oz can of tomato sauce and the crushed tomatoes and put a small amount (sausage size) on a cabbage leaf, and roll up like a fajita and place seam side down in a pan. I put tomato sauce and a cabbage leaf or two in the bottom of the casserole dish so the Halupky doesn’t burn.
Pour crush tomatoes on Halupkys.
Covering & cook for seventy five minutes at three hundred seventy five º.
Lower the oven to three hundred twenty five º and cook for about 90 minutes more until the cabbage is tender. Water every hour.
Serve with tomato sauce.
Enjoy!
