Easy Indian Fry Bread Recipe:

 

Ingredients:

For bean topping:

2 cups dried pinto beans, rinsed and drained OR 1 can pinto beans, rinsed and drained, 16 ounces

1 pound ground beef, cooked and drained

2 slices bacon, cooked and chopped

water

For the bread:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup hot water (130°F)

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

1. Cook rinsed dried beans in a slow cooker with water on low for 4–5 hours until slightly tender.

2. Add bacon, ground beef; cook 1–2 more hours until beans are fully tender. (Canned beans option: Mix with cooked bacon and beef; slow cook 2 hours.)

3. For the bread: Mix sifted flour, baking powder, salt; add hot water. Rest 10 minutes.

4. Preheat oven to 200°F. Heat oil to 350°F in a large saucepan.

5. Shape golf ball-sized dough pieces, roll into 6 inch circles.

6. Fry dough in batches until golden and puffed, around 20 seconds each side. Keep warm in oven.

Spread beans on fry bread, add toppings. Serve warm.
